This may seem like a “no brainer” but I thought I’d list some things to wear when looking at waterfront land. Start with good shoes, preferably boots or better yet, snake boots. (I was raised in South Carolina but snakes still give me the heebee jeebies.) Add white socks, (easy to pick the ticks off) long pants (lightweight if possible), light shirt and cap. If the weather’s not too hot, wear a jacket as well. Unless the weather has been cold for a while, I always spray “Deep Woods Off” on my ankles and around my cap. Then at the earliest occasion possible, I shower with Tecnu soap. The Tecnu really keeps me from getting poison ivy, so I use it every time I’m out in the woods. All these precautions may seem like overkill but nobody likes to find a tick on their body or scratch red bug bites for a week.
Today, I walked a lovely parcel on the Wando River and I didn’t take any of these precautions-You gotta love January!
